Cancer Funds Added to the 2008 Michigan Income Tax Form

Sen. Patty Birkholz, R-Saugatuck Township, (left) and Amanda Price, legislative aide and Park Township/Holland resident, join Gov. Jennifer Granholm as she signs a measure that will establish a fund through the state’s income tax check-off program to provide money for breast cancer research. (11/1/2007)

In November 2007, Governor Jennifer Granholm signed income tax check-off legislation allowing Michigan taxpayers to contribute to the following:
  • Amanda’s Fund for Breast Cancer Prevention and Treatment, and

  • Prostate Cancer Research Fund.

Dollars collected through Amanda’s Fund will be used to provide free cancer screening and diagnostic services to low-income women in Michigan’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program. Check-off donations designated for the Prostate Cancer Research Fund will be distributed through a grant program that supports prostate cancer research in Michigan.

More information about the tax check-off designations will be available in the coming months. In the meantime, please help publicize the income tax check-off legislation to your partners, as this is an exciting opportunity to improve the lives of many men and women in Michigan.
