Progress made on the original 10 MCC Priority Objectives was closely tracked and monitored over the years with the assessment of cancer epidemiological data. In addition, evaluation of member implementation activities was conducted, with the results compiled into annual reports to the MCC membership.
Based upon this careful examination of cancer data and implementation activities, MCC leadership identified priority objectives that had been achieved in their entirety. They also identified objectives that, because of their specificity, would best be addressed by select MCC member organizations, rather than by the entire Consortium membership.
Although some of the original priority objectives are no longer considered Goal areas for the Consortium, the MCC Board of Directors maintains a vested interest in their outcomes and has requested annual updates on their activities. These priority objectives have been reclassified as MCC Maintenance Projects.
On Sept. 17, 2008, the Board approved the following goals as MCC Maintenance Projects for 2009 through 2015:
Goal: Ensure that the basic pathology lexicons for breast, prostate, colorectal, cervix, and lung cancers and progress in adoption of these templates are maintained and sustained.
Goal: Monitor for changes in the feasibility of developing a linked economic and clinical database and infrastructure necessary to support data-driven decisions for control of breast, cervical, colorectal, lung, prostate, and other cancers within the state of Michigan.
