American Cancer
Society Is Committed to BCCCP and the Fight Against Colorectal Cancer
Poster Description: Alpena General Hospital, the American Cancer
Society, and District Health Departments # 2 and #4 Breast and Cervical
Cancer Control Programs conducted free breast and cervical cancer screenings
throughout five counties in northeastern Michigan during March and April
2004. The goal of the project was to target underserved, uninsured and
underinsured residents of the region. In addition, Alpena General Hospital
and the American Cancer Society distributed fecal occult blood test (FOBT)
kits to the public during the month of March 2004 and to those who qualified
at the breast and cervical cancer screenings.

Colorectal Cancer Education and Early Detection Program
Poster Description: Ingham Regional Medical Center's Colorectal
Cancer Education and Early Detection Program, now in its fourth year,
raises awareness about the screening guidelines for colorectal cancer
and aims to increase community participation in the education and screening
program.

Colorectal Cancer Screening in a Community Setting
Poster Description: The purpose of this program is to increase
screening for colon cancer by offering free fecal occult blood tests (FOBT)
and lab interpretation to the community.

Readiness to Change: Is Your Primary Care
Practice Ready to Improve Cancer Early Detection Processes?
Poster Description: This poster addresses breast, cervical and
colorectal cancer control, representing collective lessons learned from
the Michigan Department of Community Health/Michigan Public Health Institute-funded
Cancer Early Detection Project. It illustrates issues in conducting a
thorough assessment of office systems, barriers and relationships with
health care delivery systems, in preparation for changing primary care
practice prevention services.
