Prostate Health Awareness Month -
Ideas for Activities |
There are many outreach and educational
activities that can be implemented during Prostate Health Awareness
Month in September. Below are examples of events and activities your
organization could coordinate or sponsor to increase awareness about
prostate health.
Please consider being a sponsor or a co-sponsor of a special event
or activity this year and in future years to help get the message
about prostate health to people within your organization or your community,
or to specific target audiences. |
- Promote prostate health awareness at hospitals and/or
health care facilities by sponsoring or participating in activities
for patients and staff that provide education and materials about prostate
health.
- Invite qualified health professionals and prostate
cancer survivors to speak at special events, such as:
- Brown bag lunches for employees;
- Special hospital- or health agency-sponsored events
for the public;
- Seminars about men’s health issues; and
- Meetings of community and volunteer groups
.
- Distribute prostate health awareness materials at
local health agencies, doctor’s offices, clinics, health fairs, and
other locations.
- Sponsor a special event to honor men who have battled
prostate cancer.
- Invite local social agencies working with minorities
to your hospital or health care facility to discuss ways to reach men
with prostate health messages. Address barriers such as:
- Common fears, misinformation and ways to address
these issues;
- Cultural concerns; and
- Language and socio-economic barriers.
- Collaborate with the media to publicize local prostate
health programs. Also, take the opportunity to focus on those programs
that provide newly diagnosed men with timely information about their
diagnosis and the various treatment options available to them.
