How this treatment may cause problems
- The cancer could quietly spread and become harder to cure.
- If not carefully followed, the cancer may progress in the
prostate area and cause you symptoms such as difficulty
passing urine, bleeding, impotence, or pain.
- It can be stressful to go on with daily life not knowing what
your cancer might do.
- A new study shows that after 15 years prostate cancer may spread more quickly than previously thought.

“When the doctor told me that I could
choose watchful waiting, I thought maybe
he didn’t want to take care of me. But
that’s not what he meant at all.
He meant he would keep a close watch on
my cancer to make sure it wasn’t growing
or spreading. It’s a wait and see approach.
I had to decide if this was for me.”
